A long time ago, our journey started when the Lord laid it on our hearts to start a children’s home to help those who have neither family nor funds to support their little ones. We call our children’s home the Grace of God Children’s Project (GOGCP). Our children at Grace of God Children’s Center have come a long way and overcame many challenges in their young lives. It is hard to believe that some of these children were living in the worst imaginable living conditions-in overcrowded shacks with dirt floors and no running water or electricity. They played in alleyways covered with sewage and trash. Their parents or guardians are often too poor or too ill to keep them properly fed. There was no money for food and rarely did these children have the chance to see a doctor when they are sick. Without access to basic medical care, something as simple as an ear infection could cause deafness, a common cold could lead to pneumonia and even death. Begging for food in the streets is a full-time job for many children in third world countries. Sending their children to school is a luxury many families cannot afford. This was the reality of what was taking place in the lives of the children we care for before they came into our lives..
Our children’s ministry (GOGCP) has been able to return the innocence of youth to the children. Also, through our teaching and nurturing we have been able to provide them with hope and a better future. We feel the Lord is urging us to move over there as full time missionaries! Ephesians 5:10 states “…find out what pleases the Lord” (NIV). We feel that this is the right thing to do and it pleases the Lord. God has entrusted us with these wonderful children and they are part of our family. Can you imagine not being able to be with your own children? This is how we feel about the children at the children home…. they are part of our family and we have missed them! Honestly, we do not know when we are leaving. We have put our house on the market and we will be on the road and in air as soon our house sells! We hope to be in Kenya on or before April 20th, 2013. Please keep us in your prayers.
Why are we leaving?
- To share the love of God to everyone that we come across. Mark 16:15 states that “He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.'” (NIV) We are willing to be the vessel of the Lord through everything that God would do through us in Kenya, its surrounding countries and beyond. We know that there are a lot of people who are desperate to hear about the goodness of God, but there are not a lot of people willing to reach out to them with God’s love. As Luke 10:2 says, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (NIV) We want to be the workers for God.
- We want to continue helping them with basic nutrition and healthcare, as well as developing their skills and teaching them to be self-sufficient so they can have a better future. We want them to know that they are not alone in the challenges that they face, that together we can help each other and lift each other up for His glory! Psalms 9:18 states, “But the needy will not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the afflicted ever perish.” The orphans and the needy children are facing challenges that some of us cannot even dream of. It is our duty to help in some way, shape, or form. This is how Team Cheromei has elected to help. We hope that you will join us in anyway possible for His Kingdom’s work.
- We want to follow our calling. It is hard to believe that we are leaving America, but it is good to know that He is the one sending us. We can hear His clear voice saying “Whom shall I send?” And we said, ‘Here we are. Send us Lord!'” (Isaiah 6:8).
What will you be doing?
- LOVE every person that the Lord brings our way.
- Serving at GOGCC
- Helping with educating the children and community
- Planting a church or churches
- Impacting Runners/Working with Elite Runners
- Partnering with other outreach ministries and local churches
- Educating others about God/Family planning/Hygiene/Child care/HIV awareness
- Vocational Training and etc.
When will we come back?
When the Lord calls us back… or leads us to go somewhere else.
How will our family be supported?
Honestly, we have no clue. We just need to follow the Lord’s lead and trust in Him to provide for our family. We have been summoned to dedicate our lives to help these lost children, and we are counting on and depending upon God to meet our family’s needs. As we had said earlier, the Lord is calling us to move over there as full time missionaries. We want to leave everything behind and pursue His will. We are counting on men and women, like you, whom God uses to support us financially during our ministry in Kenya. We will praise God and we are very thankful for any support. We know God will multiply every single dollar amount to meet all our family’s needs and the ministry in general. Please, we are kindly requesting that you keep us on your mind and consider investing in the Kingdom of God through your financial blessing to our family and our ministry. May God bless you, and we are honored to thank you so much in advance!
What can people do to help Grace of God Children’s Project?
Pray – for us once a week, or month or whenever we come across your mind. Please let us know how we can pray for you!
Financial Support – As full time missionaries our budget for the whole year will be $18,000, which breaks down to about $1,500 a month (this will cover our essential living costs, basic needs, outreach involvement and transportation). Check out the break down of our budget on our blog: www.beesinkenya.blogspot.com
Containers – We have an storage building full of material donations that need to be shipped to Kenya! It costs about $5,000 to send the containers… and what a blessing it will be to be able to provide clothes, shoes, bikes and school supplies, etc, once we make it over there. And when we have the money raised for shipping the containers we will be able to accept additional donations so that the container is filled to the brim!
Visit – individuals, families, mission teams, you are always welcome and will have a place to stay!
Child Sponsorship – We continue to reach out to children and take in children the Lord brings our way. We can really use your financial assistance with child sponsorship.
